This is one of several sculptures commissioned for the new Greenway walking path which runs round Burgess Hill. My brief was to celebrate the pioneering engineering carried out by the Norris Brothers on the famous Bluebird CN 7 land speed car. This elegant machine was powered by a Bristol Proteus engine, and reached 429 mph at Lake Eyre in 1964. The sculpture is made from laser cut mirror-polished stainless steel. The shape of the car has been cut out of the bulkhead sections to reveal its empty volume within the cage, as if it had been standing there just as second ago.
